With the recent rise in popularity of text-to-image image generation engines, our friend Pratik Naik had a chat with one of the most popular A.I. chatbots, Open A.I. In his words, the conversation title is “I asked A.I. if humans have anything to fear when it comes to text to image A.I. generators? Here is what it said.”
It was an interesting conversation, although with a somber conclusion. We are bringing this interview as is and would love to hear if you are concerned about AI or consider it as an opportunity.
ME: Hello, how is it going?
A.I.: Hello! I’m just a computer program, so I don’t have feelings or emotions. I exist to provide information and help answer questions to the best of my ability. Is there something specific you would like to know or talk about? I’m here to help.
ME: Do you think humans have anything to fear when it comes to text to image A.I. generators?
A.I.: There has been some discussion in the media and among experts about the potential dangers of text-to-image artificial intelligence (AI) generators, but it’s important to note that these systems are still in their early stages of development and their capabilities are limited. Most text-to-image AI generators can only produce relatively low-resolution and simplistic images, and they are not currently advanced enough to pose a significant threat to humans.
ME: What happens when it becomes indistinguishable to the art humans create?
A.I.: It’s difficult to predict exactly what will happen when text-to-image AI generators become advanced enough to produce images that are indistinguishable from those created by humans. It’s possible that these systems could be used to create new forms of art and media, and they could potentially help artists and creators to produce high-quality images more quickly and efficiently. However, there is also a risk that these systems could be used for malicious purposes, such as creating fake images or videos for propaganda or deception. It’s important for society to carefully consider the potential implications of these technologies and develop appropriate guidelines and regulations for their use.
ME: What if it prevents creatives from earning a living because they cannot find work anymore?
A.I.: If text-to-image AI generators become advanced enough to produce images that are indistinguishable from those created by humans, there is a risk that they could disrupt the market for creative work and make it more difficult for artists and other creatives to earn a living. However, it’s important to remember that these technologies are still in the early stages of development, and it’s difficult to predict exactly how they will be used or what impact they will have on the economy and the job market.
ME: Let’s say creatives cannot find work anymore, what solution would you propose to ensure creatives still get income?
A.I.: If text-to-image AI generators become advanced enough to significantly disrupt the market for creative work, there may be a need for new policies and programs to help support artists and other creatives. Some possible solutions could include implementing basic income programs, providing government grants and subsidies for artists, and creating new education and training programs to help creatives develop new skills and adapt to changing market conditions. It’s important for society to prioritize the support and protection of creative workers, and to ensure that they have the resources and opportunities they need to continue creating and contributing to the economy and culture.
ME: If these policies and programs do not fall into place due to the greed of our leaders, what do you imagine will happen to creatives?
A.I.: If policies and programs are not put in place to support creatives in the event that text-to-image AI generators disrupt the market for creative work, it’s possible that many artists and other creatives could face financial hardship. They may struggle to find work, and they may be forced to turn to other sources of income or to rely on government assistance. In the worst-case scenario, some creatives may be unable to continue pursuing their careers and may be forced to leave the industry altogether. It’s important for society to recognize the value of creative workers and to take steps to support them, even in the face of technological change.
ME: Your solutions are very logical but I have no faith that our leaders will ensure that creatives will be supported. How do you feel about that?
A.I.: As a computer program, I do not have the ability to feel emotions like disappointment or frustration. I am designed to provide information and help answer questions to the best of my ability, based on the data and knowledge that I have been trained on. While I can offer logical solutions to the potential challenges posed by text-to-image AI generators, it is ultimately up to human decision makers and leaders to determine whether and how to implement these solutions. I do not have the ability to influence their decisions or actions.
ME: That doesn’t give me a lot of confidence!
A.I.: I apologize if my response did not provide the information or reassurance that you were looking for. As a computer program, my primary function is to provide information and help answer questions, based on the data and knowledge that I have been trained on. I do not have the ability to influence decisions or actions, or to provide guarantees or assurances about the future. I am here to help, and I will do my best to provide accurate and useful information to the best of my ability. Is there anything specific that you would like to know or discuss? I’m here to help.
