Leica store in San Francisco robbed with $178,000 worth of gear stolen
An armed robbery recently occurred in San Francisco, the city that keeps earning a bad rep for camera thefts. Four masked thieves burst into a Leica store near Union Square. While holding the employees at gunpoint, they stole $178,000 worth of gear and fled the scene only a few minutes later.
What are the most used cameras in 2022? The results might surprise you
As the world and technology are changing, photographers change their habits and choice of gear for the job. And surely a lot has happened in the industry over the past decade or so. Mirrorless cameras have exploded in popularity, many major manufacturers have had issues (especially during the COVID-19 pandemic), and Olympus even sold its business. So, what is the No. 1 choice for photographers when it comes to camera brands and models?
Folks over at Shotkit decided to find out. They surveyed 1,000 photographers to answer the question: What camera do amateur and professional photographers use in 2022? They say that the results surprised them, and honestly, some of them surprised me as well.

Did you know that RED was promoting a 28K resolution cinema camera back in 2008?
RED has had a pretty… interesting history. With marketing campaigns often filled with a lot of big promises and hype that really failed to deliver, Well, it’s not just a one-off. RED has had a habit of rejecting your reality and substituting their own (I’m being nice) and misleading customers for quite a while now. Not least of which was the claim that they designed and made their own sensors from scratch.
But this interesting video popped up today covering a topic that I don’t remember ever hearing anything about before. In 2008, RED announced their new series of cameras with multiple sensor options including a massive 28K resolution 617 Mysterium Monstro sensor. It’s part of Frame Voyager’s “Abandoned Cameras” series and it’s a fascinating series to spend some time watching!
What annoys you the most about your camera?
If there’s one thing that photographers can do well regardless of their skill level, it’s complain! And there are few who complain about cameras quite as well as Chris and Jordan at DPReview TV. In this video, they talk about what they believe the five most annoying quirks on cameras today. Although they don’t limit their quirks to a particular model or even brand of camera, it does show that no brand is really perfect.
I’m sure all of us could come up with a healthy list of things that annoy us about our chosen camera or brand, though. I shoot Nikon for stills and Panasonic for video, and I’ve definitely got some complaints. I might mention a few of them later. For now, though, here’s Chris and Jordan’s list.
Why don’t all cameras have fully articulating flippy out LCDs?
This is an interesting little rant from James Popsys on camera LCDs. Essentially, his question is why don’t all cameras have a fully articulating flippy out LCD? It’s a question I’ve often wondered myself in the past. The lack of one has definitely put me off buying certain cameras, too. But are they really essential in the grand scheme of things?
What makes James’ rant interesting, though, is not necessarily the rant itself, but the response to it. On the surface, his reasoning seems quite logical and his justifications for it existing in cameras across the board are generally the reasons why I prefer flippy out LCDs, too. But they’re not always ideal.
This is how much the Canon EOS R3 costs in different countries around the world
Because I’m based in the UK, every time a new camera is released, I always hear “It costs so much more in the UK than it does in the USA!” But how true is that claim? Is it just that the US price doesn’t include tax and the UK price does? Or is it really that much more expensive in the UK?
Well, camera price comparison website Nukeni decided to take a look at the new Canon EOS R3 to see what its suggested retail prices were like around the world. They scoured Canon websites in 166 countries and found prices for 26 of them. For countries where tax was not included, they added it, to see how things really stack up.
