Government officials issued a hilarious reminder to citizens that they should be wearing clothes when taking photographs for their driver’s license and official ID. The plea was posted to Facebook last week by the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) and is apparently not a joke.
The ‘very serious post’ asks people to stop taking naked selfies for their official images and reminds residents of the state to “keep things classy”.
“Attention, lovely people of the digital era!” the post reads. “Please take pictures with your clothes on when submitting them for your Digital Driver’s License and IDs. Let’s raise our virtual glasses and toast to the future. Cheers to technology and keeping things classy!”
Several people commented asking if it was “for real”, and it apparently is. The DDS assures them in the comments that it is indeed a recurring issue, particularly now that the process is entirely digitized.
Georgia is one of the eight states in the US that offers digitized ID cards and Driver’s licenses. It’s currently only available for iPhone users. However, it does allow the registered user to be verified by TSA at selected airports.
But further points were raised, such as the valid question of how much clothing was required. “How much clothing? I feel like y’all are asking a lot in a vague way. I have questions…” asks one commenter. “Enough to raid the fridge at midnight? Enough for a trip to Walmart? Brooks Brothers suit?” Seems like a legitimate question.
“Shirts, we like shirts”, the DDS clarifies in their reply! I feel that the need to ask for this means that humanity is getting a little bit close to the bottom of the barrel. Perhaps we really are due for a robot takeover…
