It has been four years since I last reviewed a premium Sigma DN prime lens designed specifically for APS-C. The last one that I tested was the Sigma 56mm F1.4 DN, which impressed me as a portrait/short telephoto lens that was extremely sharp (one of the sharpest APS-C lenses that I’ve tested). Sigma is finally back with a new entry in the line-up, and this one covers the incredibly important full frame equivalent 35mm focal length. The Sigma 23mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary is (according to Sigma) the APS-C equivalent of their 35mm F1.4 DN ART lens, though, as we’ll see, Sigma’s design brief for the APS-C series follows a different formula than their full frame lenses. Here’s a look at the DC (APS-C) DN (mirrorless) lineup thus far.
Sigma hopes to add at least one more system mount to their lens arsenal in 2022
During yesterday’s announcements for the Sigma 20mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary lens for Leica L and Sony E mount cameras, one of the live presentations in Japanese included a question and answers session where Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki was asked if their lenses would come to more camera mounts. He confirmed that Sigma is looking to add at least one more mount to their mirrorless lens lineup in 2022.
He didn’t clarify which mount it could be, but there aren’t really many options out there. There’s Leica L, Sony E and MFT that Sigma already covers and Nikon Z, Canon RF and Fuji X, which they don’t. I suspect it probably won’t be that last one. Sure, it’s a popular mount, but I think they’ll target the full-frame systems where there still aren’t many 3rd party options first.
Sigma to produce Nikon Z and Canon RF lenses, company CEO confirms
Last month, a rumor was going around that Sigma would expand its product lineup to include Nikon Z and Canon RF lenses. And now, it’s not a rumor anymore. Sigma’s CEO has confirmed that the company is considering adding the two new mounts to its offer.
Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 lens is coming for Sony FE; here are first leaked photos
Sigma first introduced a 100-400mm f/5-6.3 Contemporary lens quite a while ago. It’s an affordable yet powerful zoom lens, but it has been available only in Canon EF, Nikon F and Sigma SA mounts. Judging from recently leaked images, Sigma is soon launching a new version of the lens, and it will be available for Sony FE mount, too.
Sigma launches three new lenses for Sony FE: 35mm f/1.2, 45mm f/2.8 and 14-24mm f/2.8
Other than the tiniest full frame mirrorless, there are a few more novelties from Sigma today. Three of them, to be exact. Sigma has just announced three out of four rumored lenses for Sony FE: the 35mm f/1.2 Art, 45mm f/2.8, and the 12-24mm f/2.8 Art. We finally have more details of the specs, prices, and availability, so let’s check them out.
Sigma soon to launch two new prime and two zoom lenses for Sony FE, reports say
Looks like July will be exciting for Sony shooters, at least in terms of third-party lenses. After Tamron’s announcement, it seems that Sigma is also about to launch something new. It’s not just one Sony FE lens, but four of them: two zooms and two primes. They include 35mm f/1.2, 45mm f/2.8, 12-24mm f/2.8, and 24-70mm f/2.8, and they are reportedly coming later this month.
Shooting Sigma’s “Big Three” f/2.8 Pro zoom lenses in the Arizona desert
Last month, DIYP made the visit to NAB 2019 in Las Vegas. While I was in the neighbourhood, I decided to head to Arizona for a couple of weeks after the show ended. I’ve always wanted to explore the desert, and this was my chance!
With me, I took Sigma’s “Big Three” f/2.8 Pro zoom lenses – the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 Art, Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 Art and Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 Sports. These were the only lenses I took with me and shot with during the trip, and here are some of my thoughts.
Sigma is releasing 11 L mount lenses, but the MC-21 EF to L Mount adapter is coming first
The Sigma/Leica/Panasonic alliance has been big news since it was officially announced at Photokina 2018. We’ve already seen two new full frame L mount cameras from Panasonic, and now Sigma’s Art series prime lenses are going L mount. Sigma brought some of the new L Mount prototype lenses to NAB 2019 so we had a quick look. Yyou’ll also be able to use your Canon EF & Sigma SA lenses with the new Panasonic S1 and S1R using the MC-21 mount adapter.
Sigma announces availability for the new 70-200mm f/2.8 Sports and can’t keep up with demand
After a leak back in September, and then the official announcement a week later, many people have been waiting for more information on the new Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports lens. Specifically, how much it’ll cost and when they can get their hands on one.
Well, Sigma has now announced pricing and availability for the new lens, and it’s practically a steal at only $1,499. Available in Nikon F, Canon EF and Sigma SA mounts, it comes it at $600 less than the new Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III and a whole $1,000 less than the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8E VR.
First images leak of new Sigma 28mm f/1.4, 40mm f/1.4, 70-200mm f/2.8, 60-600mm and 56mm f/1.4 lenses
Oh yeah, that’s a whole lotta glass! New images have come from Nokishita showing five new Sigma Art, Sport & Contemporary series lenses. Two of these I suggested we may see soon after the recent Sigma Cinema Lens announcement, and one’s a very long-awaited and much-anticipated hunk of glass. But there are also a couple of surprises.
