It’s not all good news from Nikon today. Sure, they may have announced the new Nikon Z8 (buy here), but Nikon Japan has also announced price hikes for more than 50 products, including the flagship Nikon Z9 (buy here). Nikon puts the blame at the hands of increased raw material costs. The price increases are being announced today, but you’ve got a whole week before they actually take effect on May 18th.
The price increases cover just about all of their full-frame mirrorless lineup, save for the new Z8, and the remains of their full-frame DSLR cameras. The list also includes a variety of the company’s Nikkor Z lenses and teleconverters as well as a massive array of F mount AF-S lenses.
Thank you for your continued patronage of Nikon products.
Starting May 18, 2023 (Thursday), shipping prices for some mirrorless cameras, digital single-lens reflex cameras, compact digital cameras, and NIKKOR lenses (Z mount and F mount) will be revised.
In a harsh environment such as the recent surge in raw material costs, we have been working to reduce costs by promoting efficiency and rationalization, but we have reached a situation where corporate efforts alone cannot absorb cost increases in the medium to long term, so we have decided to revise prices. I said.
Scheduled date: May 18, 2023 (Thursday)

We will continue to strive to provide products and services that satisfy our customers, so we appreciate your understanding.
As well as the Nikon Z9, other mirrorless cameras include the Nikon Z5 (buy here), Z6 II (buy here) and Z7 II (buy here). When it comes to DSLRs, there’s the D6 (buy here), D850 (buy here) and D780 (buy here). A couple of Coolpix cameras also made the list, including the P950 (buy here) and P1000 (buy here).
While the increases only seem to apply to Nikon customers in Japan, if the raw material costs have gone up, the production costs have gone up, which means we may see more price increases in the rest of the world over the coming months, too. You can see the complete list of products here, but to give you an idea of how the prices stack up, the Nikon Z9 in Japan will cost JP¥772,000 from May 18th, which equates to $5,736.08. This is slightly more than the $5,496.95 asking price of the Nikon Z9 at B&H, so it’s plausible that the price increase will spread at some point.
For now, though, customers outside Japan aren’t included in the latest price increase.
