Nikon has just released the NIKKOR Z DX 24mm f/1.7 lens (buy here) as part of its lineup for the DX format Z series for mirrorless. The lens is a fast, bright and compact prime designed for portability.
Built for the DX series of cropped APS-C sensors, the lens has a full frame equivalent of 36mm. This makes it almost parallel with the more usual 35mm focal length that is so popular with street, portrait and landscape photographers.
Dust and drip resistant
The lens is dust and drip-resistant to protect against moisture. With a wide aperture of f/1.7, it’s an incredibly bright prime lens, perfect for creating beautiful bokeh and for working in low light conditions.
The minimum focus distance is pretty close, at only 4.7 inches, meaning that you can easily capture close-ups whilst keeping a wide field of view. With fast autofocus enabled, this lens also makes shooting video a breeze.
Clearly, Nikon is focused (pun intended) on expanding its offering of lenses for the entire range of its mirrorless cameras. This particular focal length prime was long overdue, and I’m sure APS-C Nikon shooters will be happy to see this addition.
